The ancient Greeks believed that all of nature was alive with intelligent beings, each of whom controlled his or her special niche of the sky, land masses, or seas. Moreover, unlike the perfect supreme being envisioned by Jews, Christians, and Muslims, the Greeks viewed their gods as extremely powerful, yet also flawed. Like people, those colorful, often amusing deities made mistakes, cheated on their spouses, and fought among themselves.
